PH Texas Report: 2020 Centers Vol. I
Introducing the Prep Hoops Texas Report
One of our goals at Prep Hoops Texas is to provide the most accurate and credible information to college coaches about the most talented kids in the Lone Star State. Our media source covers kids across the state who can play at all levels. A way we will assist coaches who subscribe to our site is by providing scouting reports on multiple athletes in the 2020, 2021, and 2022 classes. We want to cover as many 2020 kids as possible first because those will be the kids coaches will be mainly evaluating come next summer. Also, towards the end of the high school season, we will add unsigned seniors to our reports. The Prep Hoops Texas Report will provide a detailed, bullet-pointed scouting report on multiple kids across the state. Be on the lookout for each one because there is a chance you might miss a kid that could fill a need. This article focuses on nationally ranked centers Jonathan Aku Jonathan Aku 6'10" | C Bethany Christian | 2019 State TX and Eddie Lampkin Eddie Lampkin 6'9" | C Katy Morton Ranch | 2020 State #262 Nation TX .
Jonathan Aku Jonathan Aku 6'10" | C Bethany Christian | 2019 State TX / 6’10” / C / ISchool Entrepreneurial (McKinney, TX) / Level: High Major
Strengths:
- A big and strong post presence; Out muscles opponents on the floor
- Good rebounder on both ends
- Knows how to play around the basket; skilled at catching the ball high and finishing high; dunks everything
- Has high major upside; runs the floor; plays strictly in the paint; protects the rim
Weaknesses:
- Raw, still developing big man; lacks footwork on the low post
- Can be somewhat stiff at times when he moves on the court
Eddie Lampkin Eddie Lampkin 6'9" | C Katy Morton Ranch | 2020 State #262 Nation TX / 6’8″ / PF / Morton Ranch (Katy, TX) / Level: High Major
Strengths:
- Wide bodied big who plays and scores in the paint; uses his body to bully opposing bigs
- When his motor is high, a threat to be a consistent 20 point and 10 rebound guy
- Reminds me of 2003 NBA Draft prospect James Lang in the way he takes up space in the paint
- Has great footwork on the low block; has great hands
Weaknesses:
- Will need to get in shape; will struggle getting up and down the floor in a fast-pace setting
- Motor is inconsistent; chooses when he wants to stand out, perform, and play hard
- Hardly makes plays above the rim; does not get off the floor well
- Physical enough to guard defensively on the low block, but not a shot-blocker or alterer
