It’s not hard to figure out why there are so many kids ranked on Prep Hoops Tennessee website, but I’m here to say there are more kids who should be added to the rankings.
Yes, I said it. There’s more talent that should be added.
There are three players I feel should be somewhere in the 2019 rankings, and two of them are playing on the same high school basketball team. The first kid is senior forward Kameron Jones. Jones, who’s 6-foot-7, will lead Southwind this upcoming season alongside Germantown transfer Dionte Anding.
Jones is versatile enough to every position on the floor. He can put the ball on the floor and drive to the basket. He’s also deadly from 17-feet out. Jones is the Jaguars’ best overall player. Without him, Southwind will struggle to be a .500 team and win district.
During the Jerry Peters Memphis Summer Classic, Jones had 21 points, five rebounds, and one assist in an 87-70 loss to Center Hill. He followed up that performance with 15 points and nine boards in a 43-39 loss to Riverdale. Now, do you see why Jones should be ranked? The kid is good.
The other two players who should be ranked are seniors Daquarius Harris and Dontae Horne from Kirby High School. The Cougars’ head coach, Retushas Spears, mentioned over the summer that Harris, 6-6, is ready to take the next step after he blossomed over the offseason. As a junior last season, Harris averaged 16 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocks a game.
Horne has a chance to be one of the top scorers in the city of Memphis this upcoming season. He can shoot from long range and has solid ball handles to slash to the basket. Horne averaged 16 points, four assists, and four steals as a junior last season.
Horne will need the help of sophomore guard Daveonne Warfield so defenses will not zoom in on him on every offensive possession.
