Recruiting Report: Douglas Konieczny Jr. (2021)
The South Bend area has been a hotbed of talent in the past but recently it has thinned out. The last guy to come out of the area and make it to an elite level was Demetrius Jackson who ended up staying home at Notre Dame. Now, the next group of talent might be starting to build up and the best chance to reach the same heights as Jackson might be South Bend St. Joseph wing Douglas Konieczny Jr.
JR., a 6-5 wing has been one of the best players in the class of 2021. He’s a very skilled shooter who has the type of upside that is going to draw in a number of DI programs.
This past weekend, JR went on an unofficial visit to Valparaiso and picked up his first offer from the Crusaders. Head Coach Matt Lottich saw enough in the emerging wing to get on board first, before anyone else.
JR is a really skilled wing who could play a number of positions at the next level. He’s been really adept at creating room to shoot and whether that is on the wing or in the mid-range, he’s always able to knock it down. The ball handling has improved consistently enough to really setup those on-ball separation and creation. He’s also shown a little more driving ability, coming with some confidence and toughness.
He picks up an offer from Valparaiso coming off a good performance at the Purdue Elite Camp. He’s been in front of DI coaches this Fall and success has been coming his way. Expecting a big winter with South Bend St. Josephs as he has the ability now to take over games and be the catalyst for his high school program.
