Prospect Update: Keaton Kutcher (2021)
Mount Vernon has a sophomore standout coming through the ranks with Keaton Kutcher, and after a breakout freshman season, be could become one of the state’s best scorers as a sophomore this winter.
A 6-foot guard, Kutcher has already established himself as one of Iowa’s best shooters. And he’s been working this past spring summer to maintain that shooting prowess.
“Every day I’ve been in the gym shooting, I’m always trying to maintain my shot and improve it an any way I can,” said Kutcher. “And I’ve been working on some ball-handling and finishing at the rim, mainly with my left hand. And I’ve been working on getting stronger in the weight-room in any way I can.”
He competed this grassroots season with Iowa Barnstormers 15U. And was one of the team’s primary scorers and defenders.
“For me, I would say I shot the ball really well. And we had some good pieces and some good scoring, and I was one of those main pieces,” said Kutcher. “Defensively, I was one of our main pieces too, and I would guard bigger guys because we didn’t have a lot of size on that team.”
After a freshman season in which he averaged a team-best 12.9 points per game. Kutcher comes into his sophomore season with high expectations for himself.
“We lost a few really good pieces, but I would definitely say that we have some guys coming back that can replace it. For me, I need to be a scoring threat every time down, and lead the team in scoring, and hopefully assists, and top three in rebounding,” said Kutcher.
Just a sophomore, Kutcher’s recruitment is already off to a pretty hot start. He’s got one Illinois Division I program paying very close attention to him. And some other D1s who have been monitoring him as well.
“Western Illinois has been really big on me and I’ve been on a visit down there. They recently came to an open gym and they said they really liked me, and I have a really good relationship with their coaches. I’m going to go down for a football game some time and workout with their guys,” said Kutcher.
“Drake’s been on me a little bit, same with UNI. I went to the UNI elite camp. Wayne State, I got a letter from. And that’s mainly it.”
