Recruiting Report: Luke Paulson (2019)
Luke Paulson forms half of what could be the best backcourt duo in Class AAAA this winter. He joins Minnesota State Moorhead commit Jacob Beeninga on the perimeter and with those two handling the ball, the Trojans will be a threat to any team they play.
Paulson spent the summer playing grassroots with Fury Kaupa where he had a chance to run a team against top-notch competition on a regular basis.
“The summer went well,” said Paulson. “I thought I played really well and helped my team a lot. Our record wasn’t great but we hung with some good teams.”
Paulson displays high basketball IQ as he’s always aware of where his teammates are and routinely puts them in positions to make plays. He balances distribution with looking for his own shot well though and certainly isn’t shy about putting pressure on the defense himself. His shooting range extends well beyond the 3-point line and while he isn’t the quickest guard, he’s crafty and does a good job probing and using change of speeds to get where he wants.
“It’s fun playing Fury,” Paulson said. “It’s a good opportunity to play against good players and get better. I feel I improved at scoring from all areas and my handle and playmaking got better as well.”
Paulson’s uncertain of his future though he’s drawn interest from several local college basketball programs.
“I’m not sure if I want to play in college yet but I’ve talked to Valley City State, Mayville State, some DIIs and almost all of the schools in the MIAC,” said Paulson.
