Prospect Update: Dylan Jones (2019)
Waukee lost a lot of talent after last season, but they have plenty coming back that will help keep it atop the CIML standings.
Dylan Jones, a 6-foot-8 senior, will be one of the key forwards in the state this season, and should have a monster campaign for the Warriors this winter.
A combo-forward, able to excel inside and out, expect Jones to be dominant all over the floor and on both sides of the ball this season.
“I’ve definitely been working on my ball-handling as well as my jumper, those things you can never get too good at,” said Jones. “I’ve also been trying to get stronger in the weight room as well as more athletic and increase my vertical and things like that.”
With Iowa Barnstormers 17U this summer, Jones says that the experience playing the nation’s best guys and traveling all over the country was unforgettable. He enjoyed that he was able to showcase his versatility in front of the slew of college coaches that attended adidas Gauntlet events.
“It was a good experience, we got to travel to New York and LA, and not many people get to do that. I was playing on the perimeter, shooting 3s and could showcase my ball-handling a bit,” said Jones.
“I’m not big enough to be a center, but I think I’m being recruited mostly to play the four. I’m not saying I can’t develop into a three, but at the moment I’m being recruited as a stretch-four. But the schools are encouraging me to continue and work on my jump-shot and my 3-pointer.”
Division II programs Wayne State and Truman State both offered Jones this summer. He’s got some additional interest coming in from D2 and D1 schools, and will likely wait until next year to make his college decision.
“I’m continuing to talk to a lot of D2s, like Northwest Missouri State calls me about once a week and Central Missouri has told me they want me to come to a game,” said Jones.
“You never know, I still talk to Omaha a little bit and then Air Force was talking to me in the spring and they send me mail still.”
Jones added: “I think I’m going to wait until after season (to make a decision), and just see how the season goes. I definitely like the offers I have now, though, with Truman State and Wayne State.”
Dylan Jones is ranked by Prep Hoops as a top 10 prospect in his class.
