Louisiana 2020 Rankings: Top Wings
Shawn Royal 6’5 SG/SF Country Day/LA Elite
You can just as easily make the argument that Shawn Royal should be on the guards list, which is just a testament to the skillset that he brings to the table at his size. At 6’5, he can handle, shoot, and pass, which is exactly what more and more college coaches are looking for. He has a long wingspan, and is athletic enough to be a really good defender when he puts his mind to it. He had a pretty successful summer, and was able to pick up his first offer to UAB.
Hobert Grayson 6’5 SG/SF East Ascension
Grayson is definitely the highest riser in between the rankings updates, going from the mid 30s all the way up to 14, and I will be the first to admit that my initial impression was wrong. I thought he was just a 6’3 shooter that was an above average defender, but he has proven how much more he has to his game, along with growing in height. He can score on all three levels, and I have been really impressed with his athletic ability. Grayson has a super high ceiling, and I am looking forward to seeing East Ascension this season with him leading the way.
Justin Ibieta 6’5 SF/PF Country Day/LA Supreme
For those of you counting at home, yes that makes 2 of the top 5 wings in the state that go to Country Day. The rich keep getting richer. Ibieta at 6’5 is really a matchup nightmare for the other team. He can dribble, pass, and shoot, but what makes him different than everyone else on this list is that he is a capable post scorer. Ibieta is also capable of rebounding out of his area.
Reggie Gause 6’5 SG/SF Covington/LA Supreme
I’ll be honest, I knew that Gause was good, but he has really impressed me this summer with his ability to lead LA Supreme’s silver team to one of the best records in the state, finishing 48-3 on the summer against some pretty tough competition. And I wasn’t the only one to notice, as Gause picked up his first offer to Lamar a few weeks back. Gause is a really incredible three point shooter, including multiple games this summer knocking down 8+ 3s in a single game.
Tray Wilburn 6’7 SF/PF Crescent City/New Orleans Elite
Wilburn is another prospect that has really raised his game, especially in July for the live periods. He has always had the size to be a potential college prospect, and this summer he has shown that he has the skills to go along with it. At 6’7 with the ability to stretch the floor with his shooting, college coaches really began to take notice of him when he started playing up on New Orleans Elite’s 17u squad. He was able to be a real difference maker playing up a grade, and not many prospects are able to do that.
