Team Camp Standouts: Best Shooters
June is for growth. This is the time coaches get to mold their program and players get to develop skills in earnest. Watching team camp is a very relaxed, but informative experience. Below you will learn about some of the top performers from one middle Tennessee team camp.
The teams observed included: Christian Brothers, White House, Columbia Academy, Lebanon, Brentwood Academy, Beech, Franklin Centennial, Columbia, East Robertson.
Carson Cary (Columbia Academy) is a player that calmly knocks down shots. He is more than comfortable playing as a facilitator. If the team needs him to score, then he buries jumpers left and right. His versatility physically is nice, but his versatility mentally sets him apart from his peers. The Class of 2019 guard plays with EAB 17u and of course Keon Johnson draws the ooh’s and aah’s, but a closer look reveals the intricacies of Carson Cary’s game.
He is the kind of player that makes wins happen.
Jared Ward (White House) is a well-rounded player, but simply judging his outside shooting is important. Ward hits a high percentage of his triples.
Duncan Sublette (Christian Brothers) is a newer player to keep an eye on. The 2019 shooter will get plenty of looks alongside Reese McMullen, Wesley Kraker, and Spencer Stalnaker. The team moves the ball very well and Duncan is a finisher on the catch.
Dusty Williams (Franklin Centennial) did a lot of everything, but Williams proved especially accurate from deep in a tight win over Lebanon. Dusty’s impact this season will be tremendous. His coach wants him to invest even more emotionally and take a leadership role in the junior campaign.
Evan Britt (Lebanon) features a quick lefty stroke. Facing Christian Brothers Britt nailed numerous three-pointers. He is ok with the handle, but shooting is his marketable skill. Britt also boasts an incredible 34 ACT.
Interestingly, two of the players mentioned on this short list play with EAB AAU teams. Dusty runs with 16u and Carson gets major minutes with the 17u squad.
