Director’s Cut: Ohio Edition (Part 4)
As the first half of the grassroots season comes to a close we wanted to touch base with programs directors and coaches to see how things went during April and May. These articles aim to provide updates on the teams as well as under the radar players or the kids who are on track to have a big July.
Team Name: Ohio Varsity Shooting Stars
Mid-Season Update:
The Ohio Varsity Shooting Stars can be described in one word, solid. A group of all around good kids that love to play together and compete from the moment the ball is thrown up until the final buzzer. While they found success early in the season Coach Anthony Mitchell said that the kids sole focus right now is putting together a good July with the hopes of enhancing college interest.
Under the Radar Players:
• Elijah Thomas – 6’0 G – scorer, can get to the bucket needs to become more of
a two way player
• David Brown – 6’5 F- can stroke the ball from deep and rebounds at a high
level, working on becoming a better ball handler

July 13-15: Chicago Summer Jam – Chicago, IL
July 20-22: All In Hoopfest – Louisville, KY
July 26-29: GRBA National Championship – Fort Wayne, IN
Team Name: SMAC Primetime 16U
Mid-Season Update:
SMAC Primetime is a group of kids that want to win. Lead by explosive guard play this 16U team can fill the scoreboard up in a hurry with their ability to push the ball in transition and knock down open jumpers. Recently this crew played in the Kentucky Jam fest and in the words of Coach Doni Moody, “had a really good showing.” This squad is looking to put together a strong back half of the season in July, numerous schools are in close contact.
Under the Radar Players:
• Quentin Richardson – 5’9 G – been to Penn State camp, super quick
can handle the rock, high level potential player
• Kyle Szumski – 6’2 G – 3 point specialist that can one dribble pull up, D2’s
heavy on him
• Branson Taylor – 6’5 F – finesse post player with a soft touch, learning how to
use his body better defensively
• Zach Rasile – 5’8 G – 138 3’s made in the high school season, sharpshooter
