Prospect Spotlight: Corey Smooth (2020)
Rising Junior 6’0 Point Guard Corey Smooth of Archbishop Rummel High School is currently ranked 4th in the state of Louisiana for the class of 2020 and continues to improve each time he steps on the court. He helped Louisiana Supreme 16u to a 4-4 record on the Adidas Gauntlet Gold Circuit.
As a lead guard with a frame that looks college ready, Smooth can get where he wants on the court and make plays for his teammates. He spent the Spring Live Periods with the Louisiana Supreme 16u but will play with the 17u Louisiana Supreme team the rest of the Spring and Summer. In regards to the two Live Periods, Corey had this to say, “I did alright, wasn’t my best.”
Rummel is well known for producing some high level football players and Smooth will be a factor there as well this season. However, he told us his preference lies with basketball and that is where his current recruitment is hottest. There is already a ton of interest brewing and offers are sure to follow.
That frame mentioned above allows him to be a tough defender and defend bigger players as well. Offensively, he finishes well in the mid range game and around the basket. His outside shot has improved throughout the summer and is the focus of his development. One he is able to score on all three levels, it will open up his ability to make plays that much more.
Between moving up to 17u and Rummel having a new coach, Smooth had this to say about June and July, “I am looking forward to summer ball in June with my new coach and July live periods because I have something to prove.” Look for Rummel to be an even bigger threat in the state as he improves and leads his team.
