Recruiting Report: Reegan Nelson (2019)
At 26-2 the Dutchmen of Melrose are once again one of Class AA’s best. Reegan Nelson is one of three Melrose players scoring in double figures this year as the team balance has them thinking state.
This Wednesday Melrose faces Cathedral for the sub-section title and if they win that game, it’s a Friday section final for state. Nelson and his team are ready for the run.
“Our season has had been going really well,” Reegan said. “We won our conference playing good team basketball. We hope to make a run at the section final and maybe even the state tournament.
“Our regular season went great, we finished 24-2. We have one of the tougher sections with Annandale and Cathedral.”
Nelson, Preston Keaveny, and Damon Van Beck are the trio leading Melrose and Nelson is scoring 15 a contest. Nelson has become a stronger shooter and one of the reasons his team is only giving up 52 points a game is that guys like Nelson have become better defenders.
“I have worked on my outside shooting,” Reegan said. “I have also worked on my communication on defense which has helped as play team defense”
This will also help Nelson for the next level as he will play college basketball in 18 months.
“I have had a handful of colleges contact me about playing basketball in college,” Nelson said.
