Takeaways From the West Columbus vs Saint Pauls Matchup
- Saint Pauls HS pressure defense is legit! West Columbus was pretty much in control of the game until SPHS threw on their full court defensive pressure. The pressure forced turnovers and helped the Bulldogs get out into transition for some easy baskets.
- Jake Brownlee will be a very good college player at Lees Mcrae, he has an upper body frame that looks as if he spends a ton of time in the weightroom and is a very impressive athlete. Saint Pauls did a very good job on Jake defensively, but he found ways to impact the game in other ways than scoring.
- Romeo Jordan is a college prospect! Although he is not a complete player yet, he has moments where he shows how good he can be. At 6’4 with a smooth shooting stroke and nice passing ability, he is a player that Junior College and division 2 programs should be interested in.
- Deontay Bromell is a solid player, he is a slashing type of player that works very hard on both ends of the floor. He has decent height for a smaller college forward and has a nice ability to finish around the rim.
- The Saint Pauls backcourt was bigtime for the Bulldogs, Sophomore Guard Caleb Henderson played well, he was aggressive and constantly causing the defense to retreat. Senior Guard Aaron Revels scored the ball at a very high level throughout the night scoring 23 points.
- Stellar Coaching on both ends of the court: Both of these teams are very well coached and you could see the coaches constantly providing instruction as well as encouragement for their team throughout the night.
- Finals Thoughts: Saint Pauls can be a very good squad if they come into matchups locked in, they started this game slower but turned it up with defensive pressure. West Columbus will need to find ways to get Jake Brownlee more involved now that teams are game planning more for him.
