Stock Riser: Day’Ron Sharpe (2020)
Playing with Garner Road over the summer, I saw a prospect at Big Shots Myrtle Beach that caught my eye. Size at 6-foot-9, big shoulders, strong frame, and long arms were the physical attributes that stood out at first.
What happened next was seeing a player that had the post game, mid-range jumpshot, and footwork of a player that could be a high-major college level prospect.
Day’Ron Sharpe is the name. Put it in your phone, scribble it on a piece of paper. I’m sure you will hear husband name more in the coming months. He has helped lead South Central HS to a 10-0 record so far this season and has been averaging 16 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. Head Coach Chris Cherry has heard from UCF, Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Clemson and North Carolina about his sophomore big man Sharpe.
UNC assistant coach Steve Robinson is scheduled to come in and see Sharpe next week. 19th ranked Clemson is sending someone on their staff to see him tomorrow night against New Bern HS.
What sets Sharpe apart from other 2020 prospects is his soft touch around the basket and his back to the basket game. He can score out to 18ft, he has a text-book looking jump shot and has some back to the basket moves that has has perfected. He does a really good job of rebounding the ball and putting a body on the opposition to get a hold of rebounds. He sports a 7-foot wingspan and possesses the qualities I see in bigs of that caliber with his skill-set. From the inside he hits you with the right or left hook with a soft touch, he is able to get power dunks off rebounds, he even stretches the floor to 15 feet with face up or fade aways, He can finish the break with fluidity and power. Defensively, a quick leaper with timing and nose for the ball to block shots with length and he does a good job of keeping it high on rebounds.
