At what is essentially the midway point of the season, New Life Academy is sitting at a healthy 8-4 record. The nucleus is Drew Wynia, a 6-foot-6 senior forward who carries averages of 15.8 PPG and 9.2 RPG to lead his team.
Drew knows his role and how important it is.
“My role is to be a leader,” he told NHR. “I want to help my team in any way possible so that we can win. I can do this by being vocal on the court, by encouraging, talking through defense, and other situations. My role is also to be a big scorer, rebounder and distributor. I feel like I can help my team in all aspects.”
“We have the capability to be very good when we play well defensively. I think we have a good chance at winning conference.”
At his size, Drew is also a coveted recruit as a tight end. Picking between sports is a huge factor in his college choice.
“I will decide based on relationships with coaches, whether that is football or basketball,” he said. “Academics are key, so having my desired major will be huge as well. I visited Southwest MN State for football on January 13, and it was really good… I loved it. They offered! For basketball, I have taken several visits (Bethel, St. Olaf, Augsburg, planning ones to UW-Eau Claire, Northwestern) and have also heard from Hamline and St. Scholastica.
“Where I feel that I fit in the best is what will help me make my decision.”
