Recent Stock Risers & Tonight’s Top Regional Matchup.
- If there is a more efficient player in the state than Marcus Richardson of Raleigh Homeschool then you will definitely have to show me. At 6’8 he plays the Shooting Guard spot for his squad but doesn’t look to score as often as even we would like him to. Instead he looks to get teammates involved early and often, however when he looks to score he can score it at a very efficient level. His stats from a tournament last week tell the whole story , 80% from two point field goals, 50% from three point land, 11 points per game on 5 shots attempts , and 9 rebounds a night. Most importantly he is a great student with a 4.25 GPA as well as scoring a 27 on his ACT, colleges should be keeping an eye on him.
- Just about everything that could possibly go wrong for Northwood Temple has gone wrong this season. They lost their head coach during Christmas break, their starting center and future NC State Wolfpack big man has been injured all season and now they lose their starting Point Guard to a broken wrist. With all these things happening the Eagles have looked to Junior Guard Josh Nickelberry for even more production and just this past weekend he took home All-Tournament honors while averaging 22 points a game at the Farm Bureau Classic.
- If there was one player that we can say raised their stock in a major way this weekend, it would have to be Trinity Christian Forward Greg Gantt. Over the past few years we have been waiting for Greg to have his time to break out, and during the John Wall Invitational he put together some outstanding performances and turned quite a few heads. He would eventually be named to the All-Tournament team and picked up an offer ODU as well as interest from numerous programs.
- Regional rankings for public schools will be dropping later this week and a matchup tonight could have big time implications on who will be in the #2 and #3 spots. Overhills will meet up with Westover in a game that should be very competitive and features numerous players that can play on the college level. Westover features Juniors Thomas Hendricks and Tyron George as well as Unsigned Senior 6’8 Forward Jalin Thorne. While Overhills features Junior Guards Zavian McLean and Xavier Edwards, both are guards that can score the ball at a very high level.
- D2 schools need to be watching Ocracoke HS Senior Guard Liam Caswell, he is averaging 27 points and 9 rebounders per game to go along with 90% from the free throw line. At 6’4 with athletic ability, improved skills and outstanding grades, he is one that schools should be tracking and contacting right now
