Northstar Weekly Honors: Baden Noenning
Mayer Lutheran is making a strong push in the second half of its season. After dropping a few games around the holiday break, the Crusaders have now won five straight. One of the more notable wins was over No. 4-ranked Cass Lake-Bena, where Baden Noennig had the winning lay-up to give Mayer the final lead.
Noennig totaled 25 points, and for that the 6-foot-6 junior wing was nominated for Northstar Weekly Honors (presented by Intensive Basketball Camps). His community rewarded him with more than 2,700 votes for roughly 37 percent of the total share. Baden is our winner this week!
“Baden is one of our leaders of this team,” said coach Pat Buchanan. “At 6’6”, he has the ability to play inside and outside. Baden’s athleticism is key to what we do offensively and defensively. This young man is able to get anywhere on the court to make a play. He’s not just our leading scorer, Baden is top three in rebounding, steals and assist also for this team.”
Buchanan added that coaching is easier when kids like Baden buy into the team-first concept. Looking at his potential, it’s easy to see that Baden should be watched by college programs all winter, spring and summer to track his development.
“He is just a junior,” Buchanan told NHR. “The sky is the limit for him. This is the first time he’s been in this type of role as a primary, all-around player. I think that after this year and AAU, a lot of bigger schools will come knocking at the door.”
