Mountain Heritage Making Moves
Mountain Heritage High School in Burnsville, North Carolina is making a case as the top 2-A team in the state after a throttling of Avery County High School last night to snap a 53-game winning streak in the conference for Avery County High School.
Deacon HeathThe game was never really close as the defense applied to UNC-Asheville recruit Deacon Heath for Avery County was the scheme for the entire game. Using a rotation of defenders, Mountain Heritage face guarded Heath for most to the game limiting the high-scoring Heath to 16 points on the night. The defense of The Cougars made getting open for Heath a nightmare and forced Avery to use other options to get baskets. Mountain Heritage ended up winning convincingly 66-48.
Heritage had a strong game from 2020 6’8 F Justus Shelton and 2019 guard Brandon Aumiller in the win. Shelton used his size and length to get baskets down low and was a beast on the defensive side as he blocked shots and made easy shots difficult. Aumiller, a relatively unknown prospect showed athleticism and a nice scoring touch at the rim to get his points.
2020 guard Callin Randolph had an off-night shooting the ball but does the little things when his shot isn’t falling to help Hank Newson’s squad get wins. Heritage is off to a 12-1 overall record so far this season with their only loss coming at the hands of AC Reynolds 91-81 in their second game of the season.
I was also impressed with the athletic ability of Mountain Heritage High School guard Trey Robinson who is also the teams’ quarterback on the football team. He recently picked up an offer from Lenoir-Rhyne University on the football field.
What you have at Mountain Heritage High School is hard-working basketball players, athletes, who have played together for a long time and they understand where each other will be on the court and they have played together understand each others’ game. That is a winning combination at this level.
