Mid-Season All-Buncombe County Team
It is a little past being mid-season and I like to take a look at the players that have had the biggest impact on their teams’ success and have had the biggest impact in the scoring column.
(cover photo) 2019 SF Ren Dyer (North Buncombe HS)-Dyer has North Buncombe in first place in conference and is doing so while averaging 30 points and 14 rebounds per contest. He was recently offered by Western Carolina University. He is a scorer, rebounder and one of the toughest kids I have ever covered. He scored 30 points in the fourth quarter against West Henderson HS after missing the second quarter while being attended to over a cut near his eye.
2018 G Isaiah Pruett (Reynolds HS)-Pruett has
Isaiah Pruettbeen the key to the Rockets success this season, he is a shooter that can get hot from beyond the arc. He has put up some high scoring games this season and is one of the main reasons Reynolds HS is where they are in the conference race.
2019 G Jake Smith (Enka HS)-Other than Dyer, I don’t think one player changed their game as much as Jake Smith did over the past season. Smith teamed up with Team South Carolina and in my eyes is a completely different player. He is scoring off the dribble, consistently making jump-shots, scoring at the rim and doing so at a high volume level. He has had multiple forty point games this season for the Jets who right in the middle of it for conference.
2019 G Jalen Lecque (Christ School)-Lecque has transformed his position as a combo guard before he came to Christ School into a natural looking point guard. He has rare athletic ability that may have only been comparable to Malik Monk as of late. He is finding his shot and making it more consistently, he makes the right passes, he gets into the lane, he is completing the transformation of becoming a high-level point guard that has an NBA future.
2019 G Caleb Mills (Asheville Christian)-Mills is the new age style point guard being around 6-foot-5 with a handle. He is skilled at getting to the basket, making long-range shots, and from what I have witnessed since first seeing Mills is an ability to make shots when he needs to make shots. He won’t wow you with athleticism but at the end of the day if Mills is on your team you have a much better chance at winning.
