Dyer Still Producing
2019 small forward Ren Dyer had a performance that I will not forget anytime soon in front of an assistant coach from Western Carolina and in return received a scholarship offer after the game. Dyer scored 30 points in the fourth quarter and ended with 46 points, against West Henderson High School earlier in January. Some players would take a few games off or maybe let the offer go to their head, not Dyer.
Ren DyerFriday night, the 6-foot-3 Dyer scored 30 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and made the game winning three-point basket at the buzzer in a comeback win over North Henderson High School. He is one of the best mid-range jump shooters on the break that I have seen in a while. He can pull up right at the foul line on the break and knock them down consistently. He is so active on both sides of the ball that he can change the outcome of the game by scoring or rebounding on the defensive end. He is an athletic small forward that would play some of the two-guard and small forward at the next level. His size may be an issue at the next level for some coaches, but to me he is so athletic and active that he can make up for maybe losing a couple of inches to other players. Dyer is a natural scorer and can finish with anyone in the state in my opinion. He has a strong upper-body and doesn’t get pushed around in the paint when he takes the ball in. He is able to find his open teammates in transition with a pass that the defense doesn’t see.
Dyer and his North Buncombe Blackhawks look to finish the season strong before conference tournament play and has match-ups with Asheville, AC Reynolds, Tuscola, Erwin, and Enka. Their 11-1 record in conference is good enough for 1st place in the Western Mountain Athletic Conference. The Blackhawks are 15-3 overall and will have a high seed for the NCHSAA playoffs that will start in a couple of weeks.
He has had Charleston Southern in to watch a practice and several other Big South/Southern Conference teams have been reaching out about recruiting Dyer.
