Cincinnati Basketball Diaries
Can you believe that there are only 2 ½ weeks until the playoffs start? Seems just like yesterday we were tipping the season off and now the talk of playoff brackets and match-ups is starting to fill the air. I guess the old saying is true, time flies when you are having fun.
In the past two weeks two of the better guards in the city picked up offers. First on January 20th Moeller 2019 G Miles “Deuce” McBride (PHO #4) picked up an offer from Bob Huggins and West Virginia. While McBride has not played this season with a lower right leg injury, his outstanding play in the AAU season with Cincinnati Lakers obviously left an impression with the Mountaineers staff. And for good reason as Deuce showed that he is one of the better two-way players in the state regardless of class last summer. This also shows that Huggins still has very, very strong ties in the Cincy/NKY area.
Speaking of guards and offers 2018 G Darweshi Hunter (PHO #74) received an offer from University of Findlay on Tuesday per his AAU program. This just adds on to the many offers that he already has on the table, all at the D-II level. Averaging over 17ppg, Hunter has had some of his best performances in the biggest games with 20 points against Pick North at the Flyin to the Hoop, 25 against New Albany (IN) on ESPN and 19 against Dayton Wayne……
While all the attention in D-II has been centered around McNicholas, and for good reason, there is a team in Clifton who is playing the best basketball in the city right now. Since there season opening loss Hughes Big Red has won 15 of there last 16 games with wins against Cleveland Heights, Lyndhurst Brush and Taft in that stretch. And as if they weren’t talented enough the return of Dominic “DJ” Brewton (2018 PHO #56) gives maybe the most versatile starting five in Cincy. In his last three games Brewton is averaging over 27ppg, showing the scoring potential that those who have seen him play already knew about.
Also, be on the lookout in the coming days as I list the top unsigned seniors in the Cincinnati area. These are articles that you will not want to miss.
