Cincinnati Basketball Diaries: Winter Weather Blues
Man, the weather Gods are trying to ruin what could be a fantastic weekend of basketball. Only in Ohio can you see a high temperature of 60 plus degrees than 24 hours later have a chance to 4 to 6 inches of snow. But hey who am I to complain, I’m just living a dream……
I know it’s a little far down the road, but I am excited to see what the D-II playoff brackets and games will bring us. McNicholas, Hughes, Woodward, Taft, and Indian Hill all look like teams that could battle for a position in Columbus when it is all said and done. And Wyoming along with the newest addition to the D-II family, Summit Country Day, both have that one player who can carry a team to a few wins as well. And in the Cowboys case, they have two players who may fit that bill. I feel from a Cincinnati and possibly Southwest Ohio stand point this will be the most competitive of the four divisions.
Going over to Division III, Purcell Marian looks like its starting to find its groove over the past three weeks winning five of there last six. The last two of those wins includes a 32- point victory at home over Summit and a one- point road victory at LaSalle. With tonight’s game against undefeated and conference for McNicholas cancelled until 2/3, the Cavaliers have a week off until they hit the court again against Kettering Alter.
If you are a student and you have the night off, read a book or do some homework. Or if you can workout at home or watch film. Just make sure you are doing something to make yourself better as a player and a person…….
Speaking of getting better, the Mt. Healthy Owls just got better with the addition of Chris Simmons Jr., a junior transfer out of Georgia. In the last two games Simmons is averaging 17.5ppg on 16-29 shooting from the field. Add Simmons with senior forward Kaleb Taylor (15.4ppg, 46% from three), and it gives the Owls another viable scoring option. The Owls could be one of those dangerous teams that no one talks about in the D-I playoffs no one talks about.
And if you are an adult and you are reading this, make this Friday night off about you. You deserve it…. Stay warm Ohio.
