The Northeast Ohio All-Floor Burn starting five
There may be some with just as many, but I defy anybody to find a list of five players in Northeast Ohio are that have more floor burns as this five.
Floor burns happen when an exposed body part rubs against the hardwood during a hustle play. Wins and losses so often hinge on who gets to the 50/50 balls and these guys will always get their share of those while also laying down some defense and doing all those other little things.
Without further adieu here is my all-floor burn team for Northeast Ohio.
1 — Jerry Higgins (2018)
The 5’9” senior guard from Villa-Angela St. Joseph is always around the ball. Recently eclipsed the 1,000 point mark in career scoring. Has drawn the interest of some D-I school, but his high school coach Babe Kwasniak said it’s going to come down to the best fit.
2 — Dale Bonner (2018)
The Shaker Heights guard has a non-stop motor that coaches love. Has worked long and hard on his game and has made himself into one of the most unstoppable offensive forces in the Cleveland-area. Scored 38 in game earlier this year, and will play at Fairmont State University
- — Andre Harris (2019)
The 6’3” wing from Brush is considered a D-I prospect, but he can do so much more than score, although he did put up 25 points in a game against Solon and “He can defense, rebound, he has length and he’s athletic,” Brush coach Chet Mason said of Harris.
4 — Scott Walter (2018)
The 5’10” guard from St. Vincent-St. Mary is a pesky defender who always seems to be around the ball. He’s not afraid to take a charge or launch his body into the stands for a loose ball and is also a vocal on-floor leader.
5 — Tyreke Smith (2018)
The Ohio State football recruit from Cleveland Heights brings a gridiron mentality to the hardwood. Even though he’s 6’3” and weighs 250 pounds he’s quick to get that big body on the floor to track down a loose ball.
