Recruiting Report: Spencer Tucker (2018)
Oskaloosa has become the hot-spot in the state for high school hoops the last two seasons, and its unsung hero is skilled and savvy point guard, Spencer Tucker.
The 5-foot-11 senior is also a hot-shot on the golf course, and his dad is the golf coach at local university William Penn.
Tucker’s plan has been to play golf in college, but he continues to shine this season with the Indians’ 9-0 hoops squad, and has started to pick up some hoops interest.
“My college plans are mostly to play golf, but after that Eddyville game (Tucker scored 32 points in the win), the Kirkwood coaches reached out to me about maybe playing basketball there, and that’s about it for basketball,” said Tucker.
“It’s always been a goal of mine to play golf in college, but if other schools want to talk to me about playing basketball, that’d be fine. I’m still open to playing basketball.”
Tucker is a lethal shooter, with tremendous basketball IQ. He’s a perfect compliment to the high-flying Division I prospects, Cole Henry and Xavier Foster.
But Tucker, too, can put up some big numbers. The senior floor general is averaging 12 points and 4.2 assists per game this season. He’s shooting 49 percent from deep.
“With the talent I have around me, I just like to get as many assists as I can. I don’t really care too much to score a lot, but I can if need to. But my true strengths are passing and 3-point shooting,” said Tucker, who elaborated a bit on the excitement of this season.
“Last year, having Xavier come up as a freshman really helped our chances. And then having Cole really helped us. And this year, it’s just a completely different setting in the gym, there’s more people coming out to watch us play, and it’s been an exciting year.”
