Player of the Week: Landon Borrett (Week 4)
LANDON BORRETT (2020)
6’4 C, Jesup
Over 1,500 votes were cast in this week’s Player of the Week poll, and it’s Jesup youngster Landon Borrett who was the most popular, coming away with nearly half of them, tallying 735.
We’ll admit, we didn’t know much about the sophomore game-changer coming into the season — he’s not in the current installment of 2020 rankings. But he’s made it very clear throughout the first third of the season, that’s he’s one of Iowa’s best sophomore big-men.
Last week, he was especially dynamic in two J-Hawks games, averaging 19.5 points, 18.5 rebounds and and three blocks per game. He did so while shooting 61 percent from the floor. Those are big-time numbers from a guy who’s quickly establishing himself as a truly dominant post.
As a freshman on last season’s state-qualifying squad, Borrett appeared in just one game with the varsity, scoring two points. His role with the team has expanded greatly as a sophomore, and through the team’s first eight games (4-4), he’s posting some nice numbers; 11 points, 9.5 rebounds and a block per game.
When the next installment of the 2020 rankings are released this spring, Borrett will make his debut. He’s got a chance to average a double-double as a sophomore, and we’ll be keeping a close eye on the 6’4 post.
