Northstar Weekly Honors: Charlie Gorres, Park Cottage Grove
Junior forward Charlie Gorres of Park Cottage Grove secured more than 50% of the votes for the first week of Northstar Weekly Honors presented by Intensive Basketball Camps. With more than 1,600 total votes, Gorres and his fans beat out superstar forward Matthew Hurt of Rochester John Marshall, who was no slouch with 41%.
Gorres was nominated after averaging 33 PPG for Park during a 2-0 start to the season. The 6-foot-4 athlete feels more confident with his pull-up jumper and his overall strength. He’s also feeling more confidence on both ends of the floor.
Now, a week later, Park is 3-1 and feeling good. It’s a great vibe for a team that has finished in the bottom two of the Suburban East Conference for two straight years. This is the first season for coach Mike Weah, who was previously an assistant.
“There is a lot more hype around Park hoops this year,” Gorres said after beating New Life last night to improve to 3-1. “Tonight we had the most fans I’ve seen at a Park boys basketball game. We have been playing really well as a team with the new offense we have from coach Weah.”
