Recruiting Report: Trayon Wright (2018)
Trayon Wright, a class of 2018 point guard at St. Paul’s, is off to a solid start this season. As the floor general for the Crusaders, he understands that he will have to wear many hats in order to help his team secure victories.
“This year my role on my team will be very versatile. Some games I may have to take on the scoring load, some games I will facilitate, or some games I will have to strap up defensively,” Wright explained. “But my biggest role will be leading my team by example and buying in to or teams culture.”
St. Pauls scored a massive road win at McDonogh this week, and Wright’s defense had a major part to play in it.
“I would consider myself as a floor general. I understand the game really well and I’m willing to do whatever it takes for my team to win,” Wright said of his overall game. “Whether thats scoring, defending the opposing teams best player, or just facilitating.”
The most improved aspect in wright’s game is definitely his shooting ability. As Colby Giacubeno pointed out in his report on Wright in June, shooting was something he worked on over the summer with Maryland 3D. Shoting off the catch and off the bounce.
“This summer I learned that preparation is key. You cant just go into games thinking something is going to be given to you. Everybody in AAU is fighting for the same thing, a chance to play in college,” Wright explained. “The ones that receive those opportunities are the ones who spend endless hours in the gym perfecting their craft. Therefore it all boils back down to preparation.”
East Stroudsburg , Washington College, Drew University, and Muhlenberg College are all recruiting Wright, who says he has a 3.4 GPA. In order to succeed at the next level, he knows he will need to continue to work on his athleticism. But for now, Wright will rely on his intangibles.
“I think the one thing that goes unnoticed about my game is how I lead my team. I try to make sure that my team and I are always on the same page,” Wright said. “This year my goal is to be one of the players on the All-Conference team. Also this year I want to win another championship.”
What will Wright bring to a college program?
“I think I can bring a winner to a college program. I believe that I can take on any task that a coach gives me. I think I’m a good asset to a college program because I can do whatever is needed by a coach and all players can’t do that.”
