Recruiting Report: Keagan Maloney (2018)
As a six foot junior guard Keagan Maloney was an efficient piece on a versatile 22-7 St. Charles team. Maloney and his team have even higher expectations this winter.
“We at St. Charles had a good year last year but fell short of the ultimate goal,” Maloney told Prep Hoops. “We have a really deep section this year with Lake City, Caledonia, and Byron being added but we are looking to make a run once again.
“We had a pretty young team last year and with returning four of our starters and most of our depth on the bench I think we should be able to do some great things.”
Maloney scored a dozen points a game last winter shooting 44.6 percent from the floor, 75 plus percent from the foul line, and made 26 three-pointers. Add in the three boards and three assists a game and it was a strong season.
Keagan played with Select Ellis during his 17U year as his focus was to improve in every way. Maloney will be a four year varsity regular that is focused on one thing, winning.
“This off season I played AAU with Select Ellis,” Maloney said. “I believed it helped multiple areas of my game including defending on the perimeter and becoming more of a play maker.
“My focus of improvement I would say is doing everything I can to become more of a playmaker and becoming a leader on and off the court. We have the talent to be really good, but it won’t amount to anything unless we can play together as a team.”
Maloney focused on his goals and they all centered around St. Charles winning more games.
“Individually my goals are just to be the best team player possible and do whatever it takes for our team to win. Having played since my freshman year all that matters to me is winning and if we can’t do that nothing individually will hold its value to me.”
Maloney is a two sport athlete that has several MIAC schools calling but football at a high level may be the focus of his college choice.
“Saint Mary’s, Gustavus, Hamline, Concordia-Moorehead, Viterbo, and Bethany Lutheran have contacted me,” Maloney said.
“As of right now I am leaning towards playing football in college and the two colleges recruiting my the heaviest are Winona State and University of St. Thomas. For football I am looking to play safety or WR in college.”
