Recruiting Report: Brock Simon (2018)
With his senior campaign on the horizon, Cascade’s 6-foot-4 guard Brock Simon is eager to showcase a more aggressive style of play this season, and hopefully catch the eye of some area JuCo programs in the process.
He’s currently seeing some small school interest come his way, and has taken a couple of visits, but it’s the JuCo route that’s the most appealing to Simon right now.
“I’ve visited two schools, Central and Clarke. I’ve talked a lot with the Clarke coach and I’m interested in their program. Coe wants me to take a visit, and I’ve gotten letters and questionnaires from a couple other NAIA schools in Wisconsin,” he said.
“And the next school I might be visiting is Madison Area Tech Community College. I think the JuCo route could be the better route for me, because I’m not quite where I want to be right now with my game or my body development. If I went to a JuCo, I could get bigger and stronger and also polish up my game.”
Known as a sharpshooter in the past, Simon has worked this spring and summer to make himself a more versatile threat offensively.
“I’ve really been known as a 3-point shooter in the past, but I’ve grown a little bit and have improved my leaping ability, so I’ve been attacking the basket a lot more,” said Simon who reflected on his 17U summer with Tri-State Steam.
“It was really fun playing with those guys; they were so talented and we played as a team. My role was to be a spot-up shooter, but at the same time I always tried to do my part on the defensive end, and provide a spark that way.”
As he heads into his senior season with a Cascade squad that has been a mainstay at the state tournament in Des Moines, Simon says the goal is very clear: state title or bust.
“I think my role will change, last year I was more of a shooter, and this year I’m going to be attacking the rim and getting to the hoop a lot more,” said Simon.
“And as a team, we all talked, and we have one goal for ourselves and that’s to win a state championship. Anything less than that and we’ll be disappointed.”
