Post Grad Spotlight: Quinton Johnson (2018)
Quinton Johnson, Next Level Prep, has reclassified to the class of 2018 in hopes of garnering Division 1 interest. This 6’5’’ combo guard from Oklahoma City attended a small 3-A school, Oklahoma Centennial, in 2017 but did not attract any Division 1 recruitment.
Despite attending a smaller school, last year Quinton was ranked #25 in the state of Oklahoma according to Prep Hoops Oklahoma.
“Rebounding, playmaking, his mid-range game, and his ability to finish with either hand around the rim are the biggest staples in his game” said Next Level Assistant Coach Da’Von Manuel.
Quinton said that this year he is being “pushed hard” and feels as though he is a “diamond in the rough.”
In the Wichita Hoops Jamboree in October, Quinton scored 20+ points in each of the two games his team played. He also lead his team in assists as well, showing his versatility on the offensive side of the ball.
“We’re still working on his off the ball defense, he’s a great on-ball defender but his defensive IQ has room for improvement” said Da’Von Manuel.
Quinton’s decision to take a postgrad year is already proving to be fruitful as he has recently received his first Division 1 offer from the University of Texas- Rio Grande Valley. He is also drawing interest from Cleveland State University so far this year.
Quinton will be one to watch on the post grad scene in 2018. His late growth spurts in high school and limited time on the grassroots scene set the stage for what could be a big year.
