Mr. Basketball Candidate: Jalen Lecque
Christ School in Arden, North Carolina is home to one of the top players in the country. Bronx, New York native Jalen Lecque transferred down to Christ School over the summer and has over 30 Division One scholarship offers. He spent this summer playing on the Nike EYBL circuit with Southern Stampede.
Jalen LecqueLecque is now ranked by most scouting services as a top-20 player nationally in the 2019 class. He is one of the most athletic players in the class. He is ranked #3 in the 2019 class by PrepHoopsNC. He is a high-flyer and can finish plays at the rim. He is known for his highlight dunks in traffic and his leaping ability.
Lecque is a natural scoring guard that is learning to the play the point guard position at Christ School and has been getting a lot of college interest at that position. His athletic ability is not like any I have seen in a few years and he thrives at playing above the rim. He can score off the dribble and is really strong in transition. He sees passes a play or two ahead of anyone else. He is shifty with the ball in his hands and can play without the ball. He knocked down a few contested mid-range jumpers today. He is able to create so much space with his quickness and height by jumping so high on his jump-shots. He is improving defensively and getting better at reading ball screens and getting to spots.
At Christ School Lecque will join a team that should be in the talk as favorites for this season’s NCISAA 3-A Championship. Playing the shooting guard spot, Lecque will team up with 2020 guard/wing Norance Berry, 2020 big man Justice Ajogbor, a top-5 ranked player in PrepHoopsNC’s freshman class. 6-foot-9 big man transfer Brandon Stone, a 2019 recruit with high-major offers and 6-foot-9 Gabe Wiznitzer, a 2020 prospect.
