Team Preview/Open Gym : Overhills HS
On Thursday afternoon we stopped in to Overhills HS to check out the Jaguars open gym session. The team has a very successful year last season finishing 20-6 on the season and reaching the 2nd round of the state tournament. They made it to the Conference Championship game and came up short against 71st HS so they clearly have some unfinished business this season that they need to take care of. The first thing that you had to notice at their workout was the amount of work these young men put in, in a short amount of time. As soon as workout began they were running full court drills, going game speed with ball handling drills and bringing max effort. Listed below are some of the players that stood out and players that fans and coaches should be watching out for:
2019 F Jalen Moore: One of the stronger players in the gym, he will spend a lot of time in the post battling for rebounds as well as coming up with defensive plays. Has nice footwork and post moves when he catches the ball on the block.
2019 F Hunter Campbell: Hunter is a transfer in from Illinois but should fit right in with what Overhills will be trying to accomplish this season. He has decent size for a forward and an overall nice skillset, he can shoot the ball from midrange and deep and has a nice overall feel for the game. A nice comparison for the style of game he plays is Kevin Love, not super athletic, but fundamentally sound that can make winning plays.
2019 F Jeremiah McWilliams: Has potential to be good if he locks in and continues to work, at about 6’6 and 180 pounds he catches your attention early on. He has a nice long wingspan and a good skillset, once he adds some more toughness, he can become a nice overall prospect.
