Southwestern Athletic Conference Preview
Here is a look at the early preview for the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The SWC is in the first year after the realignment by the NCHSAA.
East Gaston High School-After finishing 14-11 last season in the Big South Conference, East Gaston returns Chris Bridgewater, a 6-foot-3 wing who averaged 11.9 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Also returning for East Gaston is 5-foot-11 guard Ryan Grice who averaged nearly 11 points per game last season while dishing out 1.6 assists per game.
RS-Central High School-With the return of two very good senior guards, RS-Central is in good hands. Returning is 6-foot-3 Zyrion Wilkins who averaged 21 points per game last season for the 10-16 Hilltoppers. Wilkins also averaged 12 rebounds per outing. Also returning is 6-foot-2 guard Arnie Twitty who averaged 11 points per game last season.
Shelby High School-The Golden Lions finished 24-6 least season with one of the top scorers in the state, Quay Kimble. Kimble is gone, now playing at Lees-McRae. Cherryville High School transfer Jaiden Hunt is in. He is a big athletic wing that can play above the rim. Dequan George is a 6-foot-2 junior guard that can score the basketball. Head Coach Aubrey Hollifield always has his teams ready to play.
South Point High School-After finishing 16-10 last season, South Point brings back senior guard Blake Zieske who averaged 14 points per game last season. Also returning is 6-foot-5 junior Moses Newman who averaged 11.2 points and 5.5 rebounds per game last season.
East Rutherford High School-The Cavaliers finished 29-1 last season. Always well coached and ready to play, East Rutherford has some of the most athletic teams in the state year in and year out. Retuning this season is senior guard Josh Searcy who averaged nearly 18 points per game this past season.
Chase High School-This is another rebuilding year for Chase High School. Nobody from last season is returning that averaged in double-figures and playing in a new conference with two powerhouses is not going to be an easy task.
