Season Preview: Northside HS
The Northside Monarchs completed the 2016-2017 season with a record of 30-0 ,winning the NCHSAA 2A State Championship, they lose Guards Zach Hobbs and Mike Satterfield to graduation but return the majority of their team for this season. With the Monarchs moving up to 3A, it will be interesting to see how the squad adjust but they are a very talented group of youngsters that should do well regardless of classification.
Senior Guard Jason Robinson: Jason impressed us over the summer when we got a chance to see him play with Team Buckets at Big Shots. He shot the ball well and didn’t turn it over often, putting him in the backcourt with Dye will allow the Monarchs to play with a high amount of speed, which we know they love to do.
Senior Guard Kenny Dye: Kenny holds the keys to Northside car, if they expect to have a good season , he will have to play very well. He has a nice IQ for the game, can score it, get others involved, defends, and flat out knows how to win games, Has interest from Low Major D1 schools as well as D2.
Senior Forward Demetrius Jones: Jones is another player that can play multiple positions for the Monarchs, with his ability to knock down midrange shots and stretch the floor he could be a problem for some of the taller but slower bigs that Northside may face.
Senior Forward Jason Mixon: Playing in a higher classification could mean some matchups with taller opponets, if that’s the case then Jason will be called on more this year for production. He has a solid wingspan and decent height at 6’6 to go along with good athletic ability , he’s still raw but you have to like his potential.
Senior Guard Gabe Kirkendoll: He’s an under the radar prospect but has a skillset and a college frame that should have coaches at the next level watching closely. He can knocks down shots from deep as well as attacking the basket and finishing through contact.
