Recruiting Report: Shane Chamberlain (2018)
Currently Iowa’s 115th-ranked 2018, Harlan 6-foot-4 small forward Shane Chamberlain is due for a significant bump in the coming updated rankings.
He was great last season as a junior with the Cyclones, and he was one of the standouts in a loaded field at our Top 250 Expo last month.
It’s not just us that have been paying attention, Division II, Division III and NAIA coaches are noticing, too.
“A few schools that have been contacting me are; Briar Cliff, Buena Vista, Nebraska-Kearney and Graceland,” said Chamberlain.
“I’m hoping to get a lot more D2 looks this season. And I know it’s a pretty big goal, but hopefully some D1 looks from some schools.”
With great size and a versatility to his game that allows him to play and defend multiple positions, Chamberlain is a threat to beat you from anywhere on the floor.
“My best strength is probably my shooting, I can shoot pretty well from pretty deep. And besides that, I think I’m a pretty good defender for my size, I can guard pretty much every position. And I can get everyone involved,” he said.
Though he didn’t play as well as he may have liked this spring and summer with Omaha Sports Academy 17U, Chamberlain says he’s made great strides with his game since the conclusion of his junior season.
“I wasn’t great, but I wasn’t bad. I played pretty consistent, but I wasn’t great,” he said.
“My goal for this season is to definitely play better than I did in the summer. And since summer ball ended, to now, I know I’ve gotten a lot better.
Last season, as a junior, Chamberlain averaged 15.2 points, 6.9 rebounds and led his team in steals and 3s made. He’ll look to improve upon that this season.
“I don’t know what exactly my role will be position-wise, but I’m definitely going to have to put up a lot of points and be a big stopper on defense,” said Chamberlain.
“The big goal is to get to state. And one of my personal goals is breaking the points per game average, which is like 22. I think I’m capable of that.”
