Recruiting Report: Carter Higginbottom (2018)
St. Ignatius 2018 point guard Carter Higginbottom is a high IQ point guard that brings great leadership to the table. He is super competitive and has a drive to continue to get better. Crisp passer that makes sound decisions with the basketball in his hands. Handles have continued to get better each time we see him. Moves well without the ball. Needs to continue working on his jump shot which has definitely gotten better since the summer. Really good small college player with a 34 ACT score!
How was the summer with Chicago Lockdown?
“I think it went pretty well. It was a great opportunity to do skill work and get out there with a great group of guys. Especially playing with the Catholic League boys. We had the Boyd brothers and some others from the Catholic League. It was a good experience to play with them. Work hard together and really compete.”
He chatted about what areas he improved the most.
“I think I have improved pulling up off the dribble. I have been working on my shot a lot. Been trying to make my handles smoother.”
What are his strengths as a player?
“I can lead a team and get all the players involved. I am a typical point guard.”
He will have a key role for St. Ignatius this year.
“It is going great. Fall has started and we have been clicking. I am going to have a bigger role than last year. I think I am going to be a bigger part of our offense rather than just getting my teammates in the right spots. I am going to have to score more.”
What is going on with recruiting?
“I have had a lot of schools come in. I have had a lot of D3 schools. I have to make it up for some visits. I have been talking to a lot of schools. The ones that are talking to me the most actively are probably Wisconsin Oshkosh, Illinois Wesleyan, University of Chicago, and some others.”
He told us that the off the court aspect is going to be first when picking a school.
“Academics are first. A good academic school where I can go and have a college experience.”
