Preseason All-Conference: North Iowa Cedar East
Player of the Year: 2018 Alec Oberhauser, Aplington-Parkersburg
You can certainly make an argument here for Paul Rundquist, the high scoring guard from Wapsie Valley or Oberhauser’s talented teammate, Carter Cuvelier. But no player in this division impacts the game in the same way that Oberhauser does on both ends of the floor. A long ball handler with great size, he has the ability to completely dominate a game, even when he’s not scoring.
First Team
2018 Alec Oberhauser, Aplington-Parkersburg (11.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 1.9 steals, 2.1 blocks, 54.9 FG%)
I’ll go ahead and call it now: Oberhauser will post at least one triple-double this season. He’s one of the more gifted passers in the state, and with his size he has the ability to see over his defender at all times. An efficient scorer when he needs to be, he impacts the game in every way imaginable.
2019 Paul Rundquist, Wapsie Valley (20.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 3.1 steals, 65 3PM)
One of the most explosive scorers in the state, Rundquist showed just how dangerous he can be with a 50-point outburst against Sumner-Fredericksburg last season. He’s a safe bet to lead the division in scoring this season, with his ability to do so in bunches helping lead a very talented Warriors squad.
2018 Parker Ingamells, Hudson (17.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 61 3PM)
One of the most potent scoring threats in the division, Ingamells is the second leading returning marksman from deep, knocking down 61 3-pointers last season. If he can improve on his efficiency (38.3 FG% last year), his scoring output should get north of 20-point a game territory.
2019 Carter Cuvelier, Aplington-Parkersburg (15.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 47.6 FG%)
Perhaps the most talented player in the division, this gifted wing is capable of scoring in bunches, and he’s incredibly tough to defend when he’s playing downhill. A strong, physical slasher, he gets to the free throw line as frequently as anyone in the league. Expect an uptick in his scoring and rebounding numbers for a talented Falcons group.
2019 Colton Harberts, Dike-New Hartford (7.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, 55.2 FG%)
The junior big man was remarkably efficient in limited time last year with the Wolverines. This year, it’s his team. He has a legitimate chance to average a double-double as a dominant interior presence on both ends of the floor. Blessed with great footwork and touch, he’s going to be incredibly tough to stop.
