North Piedmont Conference Preview
North Iredell High School-Head Coach Brian Cantrell returns senior Logan Class, a 6-foot-4 forward and 5-foot-10 guard Travis Wilcox. North Iredell finished 6-19 last season.
East Rowan High School-After finishing 4-20 last season, East Rowan moves into the North Piedmont Conference after NCHSAA realignment. This is another rebuilding year for The Mustangs. No returning players averaged double figures.
West Rowan High School-One of the perennial powers in the state, West Rowan returns 6-foot-8 Caleb Mauldin. The big man is skilled in the post and scored 27 points against eventual state champion Cox Mill High School last season. Mauldin was named Player of the Year for Rowan County and made the All-Rowan County team last season. Head Coach Mike Gurley is one of the best in the state.
Statesville High School–Jeremiah Mott, a 5-foot-10 guard returns for Statesville this season. Also returning is Jamiah Scott, a 6-foot guard. Staetesville finished 15-10 last season and have the pieces to be in the running for a conference title this season.
South Iredell High School-Returning is 13 points a game from Alex Angle, a senior. Another key to the puzzle for Statesville is going to be the return of Ty Everhart, a 6-foot-3 wing who averaged 10.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game last season.
Jesse Carson High School-Returning for the 14-11 Cougars is senior point guard Jailen Williams. Williams older brother Tre Williams is at Claflin University on scholarship. Also returning is 2018 Jamarius Hairston, a 6-foot-4 forward. Hairston and Williams were both named All-Rowan County last season by The Salisbury Times. Carson advanced to the first round of the NCHSAA 3-A state tournament last season.
