Mr. Basketball Candidate: Adrian Delph
Adrian Delph of Kings Mountain High School committed to Appalachian State University after an official visit on September 13th. He chose the Mountaineers over Gardner-Webb, Hampton, Radford, and UNC-Wilmington as his destination for college basketball.
Adrien DelphDelph averaged 20.4 points, 7.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists this past season for Coach Grayson Pierce and Kings Mountain. He helped The Mountaineers to a 19-10 record and a third-round state playoff run of 2016. (Delph scored 25 points for Kings Mountain in a loss to eventual state champ Cox Mill HS) He was selected to the All-District 10 team as well as the SMAC All-Conference team.
Delph is a scoring and can play either guard spot. He is on pace to finish his career scoring mark at around 2,300 total points. He is a defensive hound and can lock-down the oppositions best player. This AAU season, Delph held Louisville commit Anfernee Simmons scoreless in one game. He has taken over the role of bring a two-way threat for Kings Mountain. If his team needs him to score he will, if they need him to lock down on defense he will guard the other teams’ best player.
Head Coach Grayson Pierce had this to say about his talented player, “Adrian is one of the hardest working players I have coached. He lives in the gym. Adrian is a defenders nightmare. He can score it from all 3 levels which makes him very hard to guard.”
