Ian Steere Sets Date
October 6 is the date for Ian Steere to make his college decision. The 6-foot-8 big man from Northwood Temple Academy in Fayetteville, North Carolina recently de-committed from Creighton University and re-opened his recruitment. Steere is ranked in the top 15 (#11) for players in the 2018 class by PrepHoopsNC.
Steere told me that NC State, Arkansas, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, Butler, Missouri and Cincinnati had reached out to him since he reopened the recruiting process. This past weekend, Steere took an official visit to NC State to meet with Kevin Keatts and the new Wolfpack staff. Just a few weeks ago, NC State received a commitment from Steere’s Northwood Temple Academy teammate Immanuel Bates. “It was great, I had a really good time,” Steere said regarding his visit to NC State.
The 6-foot-9, 240 pound Steere spent the summer playing with Team Charlotte on the Under Armor circuit. He is a very strong forward who can rebound and score on the low-block. He is a big man that runs the floor, gets blocks on defense and dunks in transition. He chose Creighton over offers from Florida State, High Point, Texas Tech, Clemson, Old Dominion, Hampton, North Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri, Connecticut, Pitt, Maryland, Seton Hall, NC State, Louisville, St. Joe’s and Charlotte.
NC State is in need of more big men for the 2018 class and Steere would fit in well with Bates at the Raleigh school. Keatts has done a great job of getting former North Carolina players who transferred in from other schools to NC State. Lavar Batts, a top 2017 recruit last season, chose Keatts and the Wolfpack after being committed to VCU before Will Wade left for LSU. Former Baylor standout Allerik Freeman honed his game in Charlotte in high school and NC A&T grad transfer Sam Hunt played at Dudley High School.
