Davidson Day Team Preview
Head Coach: Jeff Coble
Last Season: 4-17 overall
Key Players
Gavin Rickard – Sr – 6’1 G/f
Gavin is a tough minded Guard/Forward that can play on the wing and enjoys banging around inside as well. He averaged 9 pts 5 reb last year as a Jr. His mom passed away mid-season after a very quick battle with cancer last year which had an impact his season. This will be a breakout year for him as we look for him to improve on those stats and lead this young group this season. He has picked up some D2/D3 interest over the summer playing with the Charlotte Hoyas club team.
Cyncier Harrison – Fr –5’10 Pg
Cyncier is quickly emerging as one of the top guard prospects in the area. He lead the varsity team last season with averages of 14pts 3ast 2 stl per game as an 8th grader. He will look to improve on that and bring the rest of the young crew with him. He is a 3 level scorer and has the speed to get by most opponents. He has an equal talent in setting up his teammates and makes everyone around him shine. With the shooting this team will have look for not only his point production to increase this year but the ast totals should make a dramatic increase as well. Cyncier also had a very successful AAU season with Nike sponsored Team United 14u.
CJ Huntley – Soph – 6’8 F
CJ showed flashes of his potential last season as a freshman on the varsity team but really looks to establish himself as a threat as he anchors the front court this season. With size 18 shoes and an extremely large wing span CJ is not even close to being done growing. He has a deadly touch to 15 ft but can step out to 3 and knock down shots. He continues to add strength which will help him with rebounding and defense in the paint. He handles the ball well enough to help break pressure and drive the ball from the perimeter. Cj played for Team Felton in the spring and finished with PSB Elite’s 15u squad.
Will Coble – Soph – 6’1 G
Will also showed flashes of his potential last year as a freshman on the varsity team with a couple of impact performances. He will look to build on that experience as he steps into the off guard role. Will lead the JV team last year to a two loss season where he carried a 15 ppg average running point for that squad. He is a deadly shooter from 3 and also has a very good pull up game. He sees the floor well and has a good ability to find his teammates. He continues to work on strength and quickness to get him in the paint to finish and defend varsity guards. He played this spring and summer with PSB Elite’s 15u squad that went 40-7.
Mark Breunig – Soph – 6’6 f
Mark played really good minutes for the varsity last year as a freshman. He is the text book stretch 4. He shoots it really well out to 3 and has an extremely high IQ. He has added strength that should help him with rebounding and defending the paint. Mark cracked the starting lineup on occasion last year and will look to be the other bookend with CJ in the front court.
Matthew Hines – Sr – 6’1 G
Matthew is coming off of a successful Jr year. He will look to partner with Gavin to provide senior leadership for this very young team. Matthew will look to build on last year’s success in the off guard position with sound defensive play and the ability to get to the rim. Matthew is another high IQ guy that doesn’t make many mistakes on the floor. He has good range out to 3 on his jump shot and has an array of floaters that are extremely hard to defend.
Jack Wolter – Jr – 5’10 G
Jack spent the bulk of his time on the JV team last year. He will look to provide depth to this year’s team at point and off guard positions. Jack is a hard-nosed defender and is as tough as they come. He has deep range from 3 but can also get to the glass with deceptive athleticism.
Bryce Alfino – Fr – 6’2 G/f
Bryce could be the wildcard on this team. He is new to DDS but has the experience of playing with Team Charlotte’s 14u AAU team and brings the toughness and talent you would expect from a TC player. He has really nice touch out beyond the arc. He has the size and length that should translate to a nice debut on the varsity team this year. He can play the guard and forward positions which will add much needed depth on this team.
