Selection Sunday usually hits the nation in March, for North Carolina high school hoop followers, it came a little early as two of North Carolina top big men made their college decisions over the weekend.
Gardner to ECU
2018 forward Jayden Gardner of Heritage High School who spent the summer playing with Team Loaded NC made it official for East Carolina University. Gardner is one of the best rebounding forwards in the region and will make an impact doing just that in Greenville, North Carolina. Gardner had offers from St. Joe’s, VCU, UTEP, UNC-Greensboro, Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina among others.
Justin Byerly: What was it about ECU?
Jayden Gardner: I like that it is close to home and I can accomplish my goals there.
Justin Byerly: Are you glad the process is over?
Jayden Gardner: Yes I am glad. the process is over so now I can just focus on the upcoming season.
Justin Byerly: What are your goals with this behind you for the upcoming season?
Jayden Gardner: To win a state championship.
Justin Byerly: What plan does ECU have for you?
Jayden Gardner: To come in and make an impact from day one.
Nate Springs to Ohio
Nate Springs, a 6-foot-9 forward out of United Faith Christian Academy in Charlotte made a commitment to Ohio University also on Sunday. Springs burst onto the scene after a strong summer and made a lot of coaches take notice.
Justin Byerly: What was it about Ohio?
Nate Springs: Ohio felt like a home away from home. They welcomed me into the Bobcat family and I appreciated that.
Justin Byerly: What are their plans for you?
Nate Springs: Their plan for me is to be an inside/outside versatile big man.
Justin Byerly: With this decision behind you, what are your goals for the upcoming season?
Nate Springs: To go out and win a state championship at United Faith.
