Region 5 Preview
We have concluded the previews for regions 1-4 of 6A. Transitioning to 5A, there are a number of talented teams that have college prospects who will make noise this season. Region 5 is stout from top to bottom. There is not a “weak link in the chain” so to speak as all of these teams are capable of beating each other on any given night.
Region 5 Preview: Top 3
1. Bountiful
Bountiful was led by a lot of young talent last year. One of those key young players is Brig Willard. Despite only being a sophomore, he took on a big scoring role of Bountiful and was frequently relied upon to make big time places at the end of games. In addition to Willard, Bountiful will have Jaden Chrism and Cooper Ohlson as well. Chrism is a capable shooter, but brings more value to this team due to his ability to move the basketball and get others involved. Ohlson is typically the recipient of Willard and Chrism’s passes as he is a knock down catch and shoot player.
2. Viewmont
Viewmont brings back a nice 1-2 punch with SG Josh Mordue and Chandler Cox. Mordue is a knock down shooter who also demonstrated an ability to get into the paint. Further, Cox is a versatile PF who can shoot it as well as anyone in the region. In addition, he is good on the block and will make a big impact this season. Mordue and Cox are a great fit for each other. It will be interesting to see who fills the other roles.
3. Box Elder
Max Watson will run the show for Box Elder once again. Last season, he led the team in scoring, assists, and steals while placing second in rebounding. Further, his ability to score the basketball at will, which was reflected in his 20+ point per game average, makes him a force to be reckoned with. If Box Elder’s supporting cast can provide him support, Box Elder is capable of winning this region.
