Recruiting Report: Michael Schaefer (2018)
St. Cloud Cathedral forward Michael Schaefer recently became the latest player to commit to Augustana in what has become a stacked Augie class.
Schaefer steadily collected seven offers from Northern Sun programs over the past year and a half but he recently announced on Twitter that Augustana would be his future destination.
“(All of the offers) made it harder because every school had different things to offer,” Michael said to the St. Cloud Times. “(Augie) laid out the plan for me the best. It’s one of the best academic schools in the Midwest. The coach is really good. They won a national championship.”
Since winning that national title in 2016 Head Coach Tim Billeter is recruiting at Augustana at a very high level. Augie has already landed Eric Tiedman from Jordan here and three of the top five talents in a South Dakota class that ranks with one of their best in years.
“When I went on my official visit (to Augustana) the players were 100 percent about the team. And when I met with professors and counselors, they showed me that they have a 99 percent job placement after college and a 100 percent medical school placement.”
Schaefer now can focus, along with Winona State committed Mitchell Plombon, on his season with the Crusaders. St. Cloud Cathedral will be a top 3-4 team in Class AA this year.
