Recruiting Report: Ja’Markus Wilson
After a superb sophomore season at Rayville, and a great summer playing with the Arkansas Wings of the Nike EYBL, 6’5 G/F Ja’Markus Wilson has solidly cemented himself as a top player in Louisiana for the 2019 class. He is currently the 8th ranked 2019 prospect and has room to move up with another solid season at Rayvile. “We are going to be really good this season. We’ve only lost one person from last year’s team (who came out runner up’s in 2A, losing a tough game to Madison Prep).”
Ja’Marcus has been working hard in the gym, texting me one night that he was just leaving the gym at 11:30 at night, and that hard work has been showing dividends. “I’ve been working on my ball handling, catch and shooting, finishing around the rim, and on ball defense this offseason. I want to be able to play either guard spot at the next level, so that’s what I’ve been working on.”
Because of his size, he hasn’t been able to show much of his guard skills with the Wings. “With the Wings, I had to be more of a big man. I had to rebound more, and it was a lot more pick and roll action. At Rayville, I had to play big but not so much. I had to be a guard most of the time, because I can dribble the ball, and I’m faster than most of the bigs we play against. But I enjoy playing with the Wings, because it was a good experience to be able to play against other elite players.
Because he was able to play on one of the best 16u teams in the country this season, he was able to be seen by some big time college coaches, and has begun to pick up some college interest. “LA Tech, Lamar University, and University of Arkansas-Fort Smith have all showed interest.” Although he has yet to pick up his first offer yet, Wilson is a D1 prospect, and it is only a matter of time before he picks up his first offer.
