Recruiting Report: Jack Burger (2018)
Jack Burger was a prime reason for Elk River’s success a year ago. He’s the prime reason for some optimism the Elks can have going into the winter.
Burger, a 6-foot-3 wing, spent the grassroots season with Fury Wilde and while he dealt with a handful of nagging injuries, the chance to play against top-notch competition and with other great players was a beneficial experience.
“I had a ton of fun with the guys,” Burger said. “The only downside was that I was injured for a lot of the year so that was a tough part. But it was a great time being with everyone.”
Burger sprained his ankle early in the AAU season but played through it for most of the season. He pulled his hamstring later in the season as well.
While he might not have been at full strength, he still found ways to help his team win a lot of games.
“It’s great to play against that kind of competition,” Burger said. “Just seeing the different style of play and different players. The best thing I think was competing against the best. It’s a great time and you know you are in for a good battle.”
Burger does a little bit of everything on the court. His shooting ability will certainly get him noticed, as he knocked down 43 percent of his 3-point attempts during his junior year. He’s got good size and length which allow him to finish in the lane against length and he’s a pesky defender on the wing.
Burger’s drawing interest from schools from all over.
“I’ve heard from NYU, St. Johns, St. Olaf and the University of Chicago have shown a lot of interest at this point,” Burger said. “I’m not in a big hurry to make a decision. I’m just going to take my time and try to find the best fit.”
