Recruiting Report: Isaac Johnson
With the trend being to spread the floor more and more, Isaac Johnson of American Fork has great upside. The 6’11 PF is a knock down shooter who highlights exactly what many college coaches are trying to find: a versatile player who can shoot the basketball at a high level. Johnson returns to a loaded region with a talented American Fork team who many figure to be one of the best team’s in 6A.
Isaac Johnson High School
Johnson is regarded as one of the top shooters in the state. His height separates him and makes him an intriguing prospect. With that said, he claimed that he has been working on his consistency when it comes to shooting as well as his “range”. In addition to school, he mentioned that he has worked greatly to improve his “mental stability”.
Johnson understands that a lot of the success of American Fork will fall squarely on his shoulders. Thus, he is looking to be “more of an offensive and defensive force”. To measure that goal, he is hoping to average over 10 rebounds and 3 assists per game.
Although Johnson is known for more of his shooting abilities and length, he is capable of playing on the block. Further, he is a skilled passer when the double team comes.
His passing is a huge asset to the team as American Fork has some skilled shooters. Most namely Rob Crowther and Trey Stewart. In addition to Crowther and Steward, Zach McWhorter returns as well.
Johnson will have a strong supporting cast who will assist him in helping American Fork have success this season. In order to do that, they will have to navigate the toughest region in the state. This will be a solid team with Johnson leading the group.
Isaac Johnson College Interest
Johnson is ranked by many as one of the top prospects in the class of 2019. As far as scholarship offers are concerned, he stated that he has been offered by “SUU, Utah State, U of U, BYU, Stanford, Gonzaga, and Wake Forest”.
In addition to having received offers from a number of widely respected programs, he has received interest from some highly rated schools as well. The names include: “Kansas, Purdue, and Colorado”.
Although he has plenty of interest, his biggest determining factor of where he will play next year is “style of play”. He wants to play for someone who “fits me”. It shouldn’t be hard to find a suitor who knows how to use a versatile four. He can shoot the basketball at a high rate as well as play on the block.
Johnson will have no shortage of college interest. In addition to his height and skill set, he plays on Exum Elite. They are one of the most talented teams in the west coast and will participate in a number of tournaments that continue to provide Johnson with exposure.
