Recruiting Report: Chandler Cox (2018)
Utah’s 62nd-ranked 2018, 6-foot-7 forward Chandler Cox is still very much available, and hoping to see his recruitment spike this winter with Viewmont.
With some good size, and a strong desire to improve, he should be a guy that area small colleges should at least be taking a look at.
“I play a lot at the power forward with my high school team, just because I’m one of the tallest players on the team. But when I play AAU or with my boys at the rec, I like to play on the wing as a small forward and that kind of thing,” said Cox.
“My shooting is pretty good, that’s probably the strongest part of my game. My handling is promising but not quite where I want it. And my rebounding and shot-blocking ability is pretty good; I’m pretty confident with my defense.”
Cox recently wrapped up his 17U offseason, one in which he split time with both Salt Lake Metro and Salt Lake Rebels.
He was hoping to see his recruitment trend upward after a strong season, but nothing has materialized just yet.
“I haven’t gotten recruited for basketball by anyone, really. I don’t know why I’ve been under the radar. I had a pretty strong junior year starting for Viewmont,” he said.
“I’m really looking forward to this upcoming senior year. I think I’m really going to blossom and showcase myself.”
He added: “As far as recruitment, I’d like to start off with a couple offers here and there maybe from some community colleges, and work my way up from there.”
Now, as his senior season quickly approaches, Cox says his role with the Vikings will greatly increase.
“I’m one of two guys who played a lot of varsity last year as a junior. So, I’m kind of looked up to as the guy that should be able to do a lot for the team,” he said.
“I’ve been working hard these last few years, and I really feel I’m going to be posting some pretty good numbers this year — so I’m excited for it.”
