Prospect Spotlight: Karl Drammeh (2018)
Class of 2018, 6’7, forward out of Garfield High School Karl Drammeh will get a chance of a life time. He will suit up with the likes of, Pierre Crockrell Jr, J’raan Brooks and Eddie Turner III. Playing with these studs will definitely help round out his game and his role.
Karl has a big body who can power his way to several buckets through traffic and some serious contact. He is a persistent offensive rebounder. He can also stepped out and made a number of 15 footers as well as a couple of step-back fade away jumpers. Karl is also a very impressive shot blocker. His touch around the hoop is solid, but he could use a few more post moves in his arsenal at the next level.
I asked him to describe his game, what things he needs to work on, what role he thinks he will play with some high recruit transfers coming in and if there have been any college interests so far.
“Most look at my physicality and flexibility and can tell I have potential. I need to become a better defender and stronger inside. Also, ball handling/security since I have not been a big threat outside of the post, the past years. Of course, there is more things but the ones mentioned has been the most emphasized parts.”
What are your goals or expectations for this up coming year?
“I do not have any super high expectations, since we got a new coaching staff. Also hearing that both big name transfers and small name transfers are coming in. You can never fully know what is coming though. I do have some type of expectations, which is the obvious, being a role player who carries some type of value to the team, and being able to make an impact on both ends. I would say rebounding and inside scoring but something’s that is not always being put to the table is probably my passing ability and mid-range shot.”
How did you play during the Live period?
“This past summer I was out the first half because of a little knee problem but I played the 2 last tournaments of the summer. The first one was far from the best tournament, both team wise and individually. The Vegas tournament (last one) went a lot better. I had decent games although I was never fully satisfied.”
What areas of improvement have you been focusing on during the summer?
“I have been working hard this off-season though, considerably better ball handling and general quickness. Besides that, I did not have any real special goals speaking of basketball more than becoming as good as possible. Although I did have a weight goal. Which was to gain 10 more pounds from lifting and I did accomplish it.”
“I want to go as far as possible with my team. Having a role big enough to get a chance to earn a scholarship. Including becoming a better all-around player and teammate.”
If you had to describe your game or model against a player in the league right now. Who would that be?
“I have never tried to specifically model after someone’s game but I look at many different play styles and positions. Players such as Giannis Antetokounmpo, Paul Milsap, Demar Derozan, and Lamarcus Aldridge.”
