Prospect Spotlight: Jeremy DowDell
Olympus has always been known for their shooting. There have been many reputable players to come through their program who can shoot the basketball at an extremely high rate. With that said, Olympus is having as much success right now as they might have ever had. This year, they look to continue that strong play and once again compete for the state championship. Jeremy DowDell, a 6’3 SG who is in the class 2019 and plays with West Elite, will play a huge role in the team’s success.
Jeremy DowDell High School
DowDell is coming off of a monster year for Olympus High School. However, he is not content with his strong play from last year. He has put a strong emphasis on “speed, quickness, and athleticism”. As he grows in these areas, he believes that he will become a better basketball player. Further, he believes that his defense will improve greatly.
In addition to these areas of work, DowDell brings plenty to the team. His high basketball IQ and ability to score the basketball make him an intriguing prospect. He also mentioned that he views himself as a “leader” and that he values being a good rebounder and defender.
DowDell hopes that his scoring and shooting abilities translate to another trip to the “state championship for a third straight year”. However, making it there is not enough, DowDell wants to win the whole thing this time around, which would give Olympus a championship ring for the second time in three years.
As far as personal goals are concerned, DowDell hopes to receive “1st team all-region” honors as well as “make all state” and “average 20 ppg”. If DowDell is able to average 20 points per game and accomplish his other goals, there is a good chance that Olympus will accomplish his team goals.
Jeremy DowDell College Interest
At this point, DowDell has not received any offers. With that said, he has received “lots of interest”. Some of the schools who have expressed interest in him include “Dartmouth, UPenn, and Weber State” who have sent him texts. In addition, “BYU and UVU” have come to watch him play. Lastly the “U of U” has invited him to open gyms.
As mentioned earlier, DowDell participates with West Elite. While participating with West Elite, he has been able to play in some events where he has had the opportunity to attain exposure. Some of the highlights of his club season include playing in the “Las Vegas Fab 48 and Ryan Silver’s Summer Kickoff”.
As far as what he is looking for in a school, he mentioned a “Division 1 school that’s just a great overall fit”. He also mentioned that he wants to be able to “make an immediate impact”. Further, he would like to be able to stay in the West Coast, but he would be willing to play anywhere. With that said, he hopes to “major in business”.
