Prospect Spotlight: Darrian Nebeker
Scott Briggs has been one of the most successful coaches in the state for quite some time. During his time at West Jordan High School, he has sent a number of players on to play college basketball. Almost a decade ago, he had a team that featured Reyes Gallegos, Mason Sawyer, and Jordan Weirick who were able to take home the state championship for the school. Although that was the last time they won a state championship, the bring back a talented team with a really skilled prospect in Darrian Nebeker.

In addition to winning the state championship, he mentioned the he would like to be voted “All-State for 6A”.
Nebeker understands the historic tradition of West Jordan and knows that is in a special program. When asked about his experience, he stated, “It’s been great”. He went on to add “Coach Briggs has taught me a lot. Not just with basketball but with life in general”.
He is also grateful as he feels that his coaches investment in skill development has made him a better player. As far as what he has worked on the most this off-season, he mentioned, “My jump shot”. His goal was to make it “quicker while staying consistent”.
Nebeker plays the West Jordan way and takes “pride in playing good defense” as well as playing hard. Although he is slightly undersized for a four at the college level, he is strong and possesses a good shot. He is capable of playing more of a 3 at his next stop.
As far as what he will need to do in order for West Jordan to have more success this upcoming season, he mentioned that he feels like his role is to be the “main scorer”. In addition to scoring, he wants to do “everything I can in order for my team to be successful”.
Darrian Nebeker College Interest
As far as college is concerned, Nebeker has not received any offers at this point. With that said, he has received interest from “Dixie” and “Highline College”.
His primary concern for a next level suitor is playing “somewhere that I can play and improve my skills”. Further, he is hoping to major in “athletic training”.
During the club season, he participates with another Coach who has had a lot of success in Utah and nationally in Todd Phillips. Coach Phillips was previously an assistant coach on a tremendous staff at Westminster College.
While playing club ball, he has appreciated the opportunity to play “a little more up-tempo” as it simulates what the college game will be like. In addition, he “played the wing a lot more” in comparison to the role he plays at West Jordan.
Nebeker is a next level talent who should see his recruiting pick-up this next season. Although his shot is slightly unorthodox, he shoots it with good precision and is a good athlete who can play multiple positions on the floor.
